I have had hundreds of articles published on the Internet, and I've had e-books, short stories, poems and a children's book published too.

Editing

I enjoy editing and have a growing list of clients. I work in many fields, but especially enjoy academic, technical, and scientific editing. Please contact me for samples, and for a quote.

    Someone asked me the other day how I could be an expert on so many science topics, or how I could write about them if I'm not an expert. Well, first of all, no I'm not an expert in everything I write about. In fact, an expert is usually the worst person to write an article about what is happening in their field, because they assume the reader knows more than they actually do. What is unintelligible jargon to the ordinary person is 'obvious' to the expert, and so they tend to write unintelligible articles.

    My job as a science writer is to look at scientific papers, dig beneath the jargon, and explain the science in ordinary, everyday language in 4-600 word articles that an intelligent layman can understand. The big appeal for me is not that I get to spout off about all I know, but that I get to learn something new every day.

Essays

I finished a BA in Literature and Composition last year and am half-way through a Graduate Certificate in Literary Classics. This means I have hundreds of essays — in a pile on my study floor! If you want advice on writing essays (most of mine earned distinctions or high distinctions), I'll be happy to help. If you want me to help you cheat on your homework, sorry but I don't do that.
